There's been considerable discussion of CF, here, but I'm curious about a couple of specifics.

(1) Has anybody attempted to operate a CF module as a disk drive in CHS (Cylinder/Head/Sector) mode? If so, what sort of results did you get? Was there any trouble with the built-in "wear leveling" features?

(2) Has anybody attempted to operate CF module, which should, ostensibly, work just fine using a pretty normal IDE interface, in the "8-bit mode" that was provided for in the IDE/ATA standards up through 1994? Did that work at all?
