#100866 - code like this is where we hear "the cod
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Andy, I did not recall that you had stated this before, I should have referenced, but anyhow this can not be stated often enough.

code like this is where we hear "the thang works flawlessly, but ..." (what a crock)

re 80:20 (my numbers, Andy's are 90:10)
To refresh, the rule states:
It takes 20% of the time to do 80% of the code.
It takes 80% of the time to generate the remaining 20% of the code.
It takes 20% of the time to fix 80% of the bugs.
It takes 80% of the time to fix the remaining 20% of the bugs.

I an sure some of us could generate "working" code in 20% of the time it takes us to generate a given piece of code. Hopefully all of us would refuse to do so. Code that does not take all (NOTE: "all" not "likely") situations into account is the reason our profession (with the aid of a company in Redmond, WA) has got the reputation many of us deserve.

I do not know how often I have heard "just power down and power up" is that reasonable?

Erik
