using bondout chips for making ICE is dieing due to its limitations (not only just) on upgrading, tieing up with that particular chip, etc., and they are very expensive. now most commonly used technic is called "hooks mode". i dont know much particulars about it as it is proprietry. the ICE manufacturers buy licence to use them.
