This will be an earthing problem!
It'll be nothing specifically to do with the MT8870 - it's the earth on the RS232 line (or, more correctly, the device on the other end of the RS232 line) grounding one of the phone lines. You will need an isolated RS232. This has been discussed before - try a search for "isolated RS232" |
