If you don't need the V90 protocol and can do with the V34 (33,600bps) why don't you use an ISA modem ? You will still need to emulate a bus, yet it will be much easier than PCI.
Of course you can also use an external modem, you will only have to emulate a full featured serial port (not just Rx, Tx). |
