#102380 - Cold Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Cold start is a start from cold - ie, everything switched off, discharged, cooled-down, etc
Warm start is where at least something is still warm - eg, applying a RESET pulse to the processor without cycling the power. Some systems may further distinguish betweem "cold start", "hardware reset", and "warm start", etc, etc,... If you look at your processor Datasheet, you will see that some things are not affected by a RESET pulse if power stays on; and, of course, resetting the processor might not affect other parts of your system... Thus a warm start could leave some conditions resulting from previous operation... That's why sometimes a warm start is not enough, and a power-cycle (cold start) is required! On a PC, Ctrl+Alt+Del gives you a "warm start" |
