If the response time and/or resolution for the analog outputs are not critical, then you can certainly implement a software PWM solution using the '2051 - although using an external multi-channel DAC would help ease the software burden, while easily extending the resolution to 8-bits at the same time. One problem with using the '2051 for your app that I can forsee, is that you do not have any onchip data EEPROM storage, so that the 'virtual' pot values can be stored into upon power-off. In this case, use either an external 93C46 or use a different 8051 variant. Don't forget that you will also need a reset supervisor - especially if your writing to external (or even internal) data EEPROM/flash. Regards, Valentin Angelovski |
