You're correct in that my response was perhaps somewhat generous - even though Paul was on the right track for the solution, it appears he didn't understand the difference between 'clock' and 'machine' cycles ( refer to 8051 datasheet for more info on this, Paul :) I will work on dropping the right 'hint' next time.
