I differentiate between hysteresis and dead zone.
I would consider them the same with the caveat the a "dead zone" is not necessarily static, and thus becomes hysteresis by your definition. anyhow, let us not start arguing semantice (I gladly accept your verbage as one of the vaild uses of the expressions), but I think, going by your definitions, that Gaetan need hysteresis, since jitte at 1/2 will hurt his app sa much as jitter at 1/8.
