Thanks for the help, it is a linker problem, however the help file says to copy the source (calloc.c) into the project directory and then compile which I did, and it compiles OK (just doesn't link)

Anyway I don't need it anymore, as I reworte the program to use an array with fixed dimensions (and I will just ensure that I never overrun it!
