#114696 - I hate the statement "IT WORKS". Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I hate the statement "IT WORKS". How much crap has been posted with those blasted words included.
We bought the original Atmel ISP cable 4 years ago and it did have the 74HC244 chip and it worked fine. In this particular case I think that Atmel "tested" (another stupid word) the cable with the PCs made at that time. Now we all know that the PC makers cut every corner there is (surprised that a monitor still has sharp corners) and possibly newer PCs require the 74VHC244 for some reason. Another possibility would be that Atmel "tested" it on only one type of PC port and justifiably got flak from all those for whom it did not work and found that using the 74VHC244 solved the problem. If Atmel saw the need to change, there must have been a reason. It also had the crappy circuit Oleg pointed to in my original post and I built it and it actually worked under win98. who knows, maybe the change became required because of some timing change when the next Win rev came out.
