Dear Paul, if your apparatus has in built battery then you can add a small bridge rectifier in between the charging jack or terminals or whatever you used to connect your charger to your ,and your battery then user can plug in ac or dc voltage irregard of polarity make sure your charger has 1.2 volts more than the old unit to compensate for rectifier losses.Hope this be of help
