Else where in this forum I have read about availibility of CPU time for UART operation.

1. How do you measure this and how do you determine whether you can add more code without without sacrificing performance.

2.I have a system where one 89c51 talks to 16 slaves through serial port.
I am not very happy with the communcation speed and also the other functions of the CPU are being slowed down considerably if I try to poll the slaves more often.
3. I am running the cpu on 10 Mhz clock.
24 will only double the through put.
Any ideas
