Karsten,

did you do a FLASH compare of the faulty part?
It looks to me like a reset problem in your circuit. you have a rater large capacitor for a battery powered application. your supervisory circuit should trip somewhere above 4V because the 89S parts are only specified for VCC min. of 4V.
