I never used a 8051 UART with external clock. So I'm a bit unsure whether it can work or not.
I do not see why not, but then most Dallas chips have an idiosynchracy or two. The easy way is to try it, as I can not see why not, I can definitely not see a possibility of the behaviour becoming intermittent. If I saw the need for this, I would do it and if it worked not worry even a bit that I had done something risque. Erik |
