I have some icq (girl) friends in China for about 2 years. All of them very fine people..... I must admit that i was also affected by some western legends, like "internet in china is censored". This is not true. I have a friend from Macau that now is studying in Guangzhou (also known as Canton), which is a 2800 year old city with "only" 8 million people (greater than hong-kong). We talk frequently.

I have already asked about censorship in internet, and ALL told me a very great "NO !". The fact is that people in China (not the "special administration regions", like Macau and hk (special adm. regions could be also called as "capitalist regions" - i think they like euphemisms; they also like to say, as i saw it in the macau government web site, "two systems, one country") ) earns about 40 to 100 us dollars and big cities and about 20 to 50 us dollars in small cities, so there is no need to have some kind of censorship... most people simply does not have money to have a computer in their house, even if most computers are made there....

I would suggest to you to make some friends in China, they are really a very good people, you will be very surprised... have fun
