#12895 - RE: communication between RS422 and RS485 |
The RS422 standard allows for one driver on the communication line and can drive up to 10 receivers. The RS422 generally has its line driver on all the time. The standard is simplex communication.
The RS485 standard allows for 32 drivers on the communication line while having 32 receivers. The standard is half duplex. Both use the same differential data line scheme, have the same data rates , and the same distances. So, if you have a single RS422 communication line then the device can be a reciever or a transmitter but not both. The RS485 communication line can be either driver or receiver. If you do not use a master/slave configuration then you will want to write collision resolution software for your project. Al |
