Erik won't recommend it, but Atmel makes 8051's with a nice CAN controller built in...much more powerful than the MCP2515. Check out the T89C51CC01, AT89C51CC02 and AT89C51CC03. We've used the 'CC03 for over a year now. Recently on a different project we had to add an MCP2515, and I much prefer the capabilities of the 'CC03. Atmel has apnotes and sample code for initializing and using the controller. But you will be forced to read a datasheet that isn't the best, and you'll need to read the CAN bus specification to understand how it all works. Dennis |
