#133403 - a 8051 demonstrator
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Design a panel with switches and lights and suitable description, which demonstrates the working of 8051.

This can be as simple as a debounced switch (alternatively, a hand-switch-gated slow-running oscillator; or both) directly to the '51s oscillator input, a set of switches behind a 74xx245 for entering data for simulating external code memory, the ubiquitous 74xx573 low-address latch, and a set of ULN2803s driving LEDs for indication. You may add a real code (EP)ROM with a set of well-thought test cases, to be chosen by switches on the high addresses. You may also add peripherals, e.g. ADC (with a pot as an input), DAC (with an analog voltmeter at the output for added effect), relay, motor... The instructions for use should be clear from what is written on the panel. By the time you'll be about to finish it, you will find out other 100 ways how to improve it.

If you want something really challenging, do the same, but the 8051 this time would only simulate it's working, running a monitor-like software, capable of outputting its internal state onto 7-segment LED displays, the internal RAM being addressed by a rotary switch (with indication on another set of 7segs) etc.etc.etc.
