You are so narrow mind to Java.
It has many advantage on platform free.The meaning is when you develope on a MCU.You don`t have to change much on software to get same feature and function on another MCU.
This is also related to Open source comfortable for embedded work.

Java do eat much resouce but the cause is that different MCU doesn`t have same inside structure so it need to be generous enough for any MCU.
According to Craig said I agree with that implementation and hope that the compile time of Java machine code will produce something more effcientcy.
