Infineon makes some very nice chips that interface easily to a microcontroller to drive small motors. Check this link for one example: http://www.infineon.com/upload/Do..._3.0_1.pdf
This particular chip, if properly installed on a heat sinking PC board, can switch motors with up to 6 to 7 amperes of current from power supplies up to 40 volts. A supported SPI serial interface allows some device operational setup and configuration and the read mode permits monitoring device operation including fault status monitoring. Your microcontroller can supply a port pin to set the motor direction (CW or CCW) and a PWM signal to set the motor speed in proportion to the duty cycle of the signal. - mkaras |
