I think that NOT generally refers to a signal, where CPL is short for one's compliment, and refers to the 8 bit number that you are acting on.
I believe that this definition was more commonly held back in the 1970s, when the instruction sets were being defined. After all, the main purpose of computers back then was arithmetic. |
