Forget about the using DS1307. Get a GPS receiver with RS232 interface. They are cheap on EBAY. They are easy to interface to with about any processor IC. They provide you with all the information you require to complete your project. Put a LCD on your project and it will tell you all of the information you would need. Your math formulas look OK to me.
