#14262 - RE: @@##??!! Migration PL/M to C ??@@£æ$ |
Hi!
I agree with Andy. I have been using Assembler language since (I am not quite sure) 12 years. In the beginning of this year I have bought C compiler from Raisonce but I was afraid to use it because I have expected the problem to fit program's code into 8kB of flash memory. I have bought C but I still have been using old, lovely Assembler. But, listen, it is amazing! I have started to write some applications in C and the code size is very, very small. I can be better about (it depends on application) 3..20% of memory usage. No more, only 3..20%!!! Yes, I have to learn a new habits, but it is not so difficult to do as making some floating point routines in assembler ;o) Maybe you should change your C compiler, maybe you should learn a new habits, but belive me (in the past I was one of C enemies...) - C is really very good. Every time you are changing your habits - it is very difficult. I like Zilog microcontrollers but I have had to learn Intel's 8051. I remember the time when I was complaining: oooh! there isn't the pairs of registers, oooh! there isn't 16-bits operations etc. I think, programming is diffrent than life. In life, when you know i.e. Papua's language it increases your chances. But in programming, if you are using not so popular language, your chance to find a good job decreases. Think about... For me it is very good reason to learn. Good luck! Jacek |
