I am not too surprised this kind of "product" is not available very widely. I see absolutely no commercial potential in it: the dangling amateur is able to write it himself so he won't spend money on the product and time to learn how to use it; and the cool professional won't get tied down by royalties.
On the other hand, I was already thinking of trying to do a common fun project here, on 8052.com, to achieve something similar - although my primary idea was to reproduce the I2C-driven UART, Erik was talking about. I thought this might be an opportunity not just to create something which can be of some potential use, but also to share design methodology, show good design practices, discuss the decisions on hardware/software/interface/protocol etc.; all this on a simple project enough not to cost too much both in terms of time and money. Of course I am aware that this needs a lot of work to do - to agree on a common platform, try to build a prototype (and persuade at least a couple of fellow "forumers" to join), coordinate the software development, publish results in usable form... And, knowing all this, I am hesitant to suggest here to do so - I really don't like to fail on the public... JW |
