#143243 - Good support but limited quality documentation Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Erik,
I agree 100% - there must be quite a few people like us that have to figure out the communications protocol details by themselves over and over again because the documentation leaves a lot unsaid. The vinculum user's manual must have been written by an engineer who was (too) familiar with the chip and makes unrealistic assumptions about our knowledge of the chip. Both times I asked FTDI for technical assistance I received a response within 24 hours, however. I built a development board just to play with the VDIP1 module just to get familiar with it first and am very glad that I did or my thinning hair would be more scarce. At this point I'm not stuck but thanks for the offer of help if required. b.t.w. It took the VDIP1 module 10 seconds to log onto (or whatever it's called) a 512M USB ram drive and a whopping 65 seconds to log onto a 4GB USB ram drive. Once logged on opening and writing data to files is very fast - but I was surprised to see how long it took to log on! This was in SPI mode. Cheers, Bert |
