Another reason is the fact that when the C compiler creates the lookup code it may not be efficient. This also depends on the compiler and also on the target MCU
which, in this forum is the '51.

As I suggested, read "the bible" before you start discussing in a forum where the topic (the "target MCU") is the '51 processor, not "general issues that apply to some processors".
