But I have, in times gone by, worked with several types of progress detectors. One type had various filters that were programmed to respond directly to the tone frequencies that are found in particular answer back tones. I.E. It worked much the same as a DTMF detector. Others, and the modem stuff I have studied, worked on the premise of the tone cadence detection.
