I hope this is no surprise to you, Erik, but there are 7-segment LCD's, and those often use less than 1% the power of a character LCD of the HD44780-(or similar)-driven type. They're what's commonly used in wristwatches, etc, with the exception that the easier ones to use are larger. These are driven similarly to 7-segment common cathode LED's, with the exception that they're AC driven, so you have to invert the data and backplane drive at a prescribed rate.
I don't think graphic LCD's are being considered, since they require even more power. RE |
