8051 Supervisor Chip - I used the Maxim MAX812-LEUS.

That's the good news.

The bad news is that I had to buy a tape reel of 2,500 for $0.99 each.

They quoted $1.80 at 200 quantity. With Maxim, the sky is the limit for purchases of one or two quantiy.

Delivery was mere 3 days (USA) even though Maxim quoted 5 weeks.

Maybe the lesson is that in bad economic times, credit card purchases can be attractive to a chip manufacturer wishing to improve their stock earnings reports by mining some quick cash orders?

I bought a bunch of MAX3222EEWN also, with a longer lead time and still got them in a mere 3 days.

If fact, everything I've ordered has been in stock except for industrial grade crystals (9wks), and flex-cables (8wks). That's a lot better than last year at this time.
