As Tom said, don't overclock unless the project stays on your bench.

Specifications keep you out of legal trouble with customers. Violate a specification in your design and while you may get away with it, a competitor may examine one of your designs and let all your customers know who reckless your products are.

I sure would be merciless on a reckless competitor.

You can get away with a lot of bad designs in corporations because management is often clueless. But if you don't learn to design it right, you might not have another job to hop into when the troubles start showing up.

Then its time for a new profession.
