#15415 - Controlling multiple servos with 805x |
Hi I'm a newbie here... plz be patient with me :)
I'm trying to use a 8052 to control multiple servos. Here's the idea I have right now: I hook up a 4 bit decoder(http://store.yahoo.com/webtronics/74hc4514.html) to the I/O pins of a 8052, and when a 20-40ms (haven't decided yet) timer ticks, it sends a pulse with the PWM out pin. The PWM and the pin on the decoder corresponding to the servo to be controlled are connected with an AND gate, which's output is connected to a servo. Now, here's where newbie power sets in: -What order should I do the things in? Start the pulse, then set the 4 bit output, stop the pulse, or set the 4 bit output, start the pulse, then stop the pulse? -Could the pulse take too long for it to complete, and stop the pulse too early? -Could the entire process of going through however many servos take too long? -If I were to frequently send a 3-4 byte message via the serial port to switch the servo positions, would it slow down the servos too much? -I read that someone controlled 10 servos with a 8052. Does this sound about right? And now for the killer question: What's the strobe on the 4 bit decoder for? Thanks in advance Ray |
