I do not know them, but a very cheap variant is called a toolstik - the devboards (and I believe the toolsticks) provide real time emulation, and there is nothing like "looking under the hood" for finding out how the bugger ticks. I am VERY partial to the f0x-f2x devboards, but, if you have to, I'm sure the deviates (f3x-up) work just fine. You get devboard, a (limited) compiler, emulator, download all in one cheap box.
