I have, on at least 3 different projects, used a SiLabs derivative part or eval board to develop and debug code with the JTAG facilities and then turned around and targeted the code into an Intel, Atmel or NXP (Philips) type MCU. I have found the C8051F226 to be an excellent spring board for this concept. This approach seemed to work best for me when the code development was done in assembly language.
