This single line was my grief :

IE = 0xB2;

It must have been IE = 0xA2;

Anyway it goes to prove that when you have elimnated all obvious bugs and still the program does not work, you cannot take for granted any single line.

As for your suggestion to use the JTAG interface, I should accept that I am not very proficient in its use ( particularly when some three interrputs are firing ) except to study the register contents.
