... so we can get a little more technical. I was thinking of the Microchip PIC instruction set. Looking through the 16F887 User's Manual, I see "File Address" referring to the SFRs, and "Register File" referring to other RAM locations. Also, the mnemonics themselves, such as ADDWF and MOVF, tend to reinforce the concept of "File Registers" (uChip's term) being referred to simply as "Files."
With that all said, were you to say that using the name "File" was a Really Bad Idea, you would have no argument from me! --Rich |
