as I have said, now seconded by Andy, do not try to make the whole shebang work in one go, SIMPLIFY, SIMPLIFY. SIMPLIFY, get some simple thing working, then add, get it working, then add get it ....

I have, several times suggested the you start with a simpler EEPROM, why do you resist, they cost less than a buck.
