I don't know about that particular LCD driver, but in my experience, loose contacts wreak major havoc in the displays.
Check connectivity for all lines between uC and the LCD pins. If data is being displayed, but in corruped form, maybe only the data lines have loose contacts. Also in some cases pull ups are required Sorry but I cannot say if there is a bug in the code itself since i am not familiar with the driver type There is a good tutorial on LCD interfacing on this site tho'.
