How do you perceive the specifications as telling you that internal access, using an AT89C51, is any faster than external?

Some MCU's have a speed advantage, but I doubt this is one of them. The cycle lengths are the same for code and/or data fetches on-chip or off. It's slow enough to use an old i8255, too!
