I once, just as a chance, tried to burn a picture file (jpg) into ATMEL's mcu flash, using the programer of course. (just changed the extension from *.jpg to *.bin as the programer's software requirement)

Then I read it back and saved, changed the extension back to *.jpg and opened in the Adobe as usual. It reproduced exactly the same.

I don't know whether above is a solution to your problem, I just mentioned it as my experience.
