I keep getting hit by VAT charges on import items handled by Royal Mail. If it's over 18gbp, VAT gets charged (but no import duty). It's galling to be charged 15% VAT on a 25US Dollar item (~2.70gbp) plus 8gbp 'handling fee' by Royal Mail (they don't charge the fee if there's no tax), as I just have.
