It always seems a bizarre omission that this in not part of the language standard - I think even the C99 (and later?) committee couldn't see a need for it!

Anyhow, the fact is that it's not part of the language standard - so any compiler that does support it does so only by a proprietary, non-portable extension.

I can't actually recall ever having used a compiler that does provide such an extension - no doubt other readers can name some, though...
