If your main concern is manufacturing cost (rather than development cost), then the software scanning is definitely the way to go.
If you want to reduce chip count without doing it in software, look at the Triscend E5: it has an 8032, SRAM, and programmable logic on a single chip. Surprisingly, I didn't see a keypad interface in their standard logic library, but they might have one if you ask nicely! |
