BCD stores one decimal digit in four bits, so a 8-bit register can hold the values 00 .. 99.
ASCII is characters as used in this text. Your 8-bit register has only room for one character, but selectable from 256 (or for ASCII actually only 0..127, since that old standard was intended for old 7-bit output devices). Most people however ignores the original definition of ASCII. |
