While I still have no idea what exactly is your problem, nor what is exactly your hardware; please note, that on the "classical" 8051 derivatives (i.e. 40-pin package), port P0, if not used for external memory access but as a general purpose port, contains pure open collector outputs and high-impedance inputs, i.e. you need to add external pull-up resistors to go those pins high.
