There is a whole section in the FAQs clearly titled, "Serial Communications Questions", including one entry titled, "basic RS232 guide for 8052 users"
See: http://www.8052.com/faqs Also remember that, as far as the PC is concerned, the 8051 is irrelevant - a COM port is a COM port, irrespective of what's connected to it! All the PC sees of a COM port is that it sends bytes to it, and receives bytes from it - the PC neither knows nor cares where the sent bytes go to, nor where the received bytes came from. |
