Yes, you probably have a point there. :-( But WIZnet should beware of taking this attitude - as already noted, their product is rather expensive for what it is: http://www.8052.com/forum/read/172256 Years ago, they probably had a "unique selling point"; but, nowadays, other microcontrollers with more power and built-in ethernet MAC and PHY are easily available at comparable prices - and with proper documentation! These other microcontrollers are easily able to support one of the many free TCP/IP stacks, and still leave plenty of resources for the user application; so the "hardware TCP/IP" becomes far less of a compelling reason to go to WIZnet - especially when there are obstacles like this to using it... |
