I'm currently using Enterprise Architect, which seemed very reasonably priced to me:

Are you using this on the free 30 day evaluation? Or have you gone beyond this and purchased the product? It was recommended to me years ago, and then I saw a demo at the last Embedded Systems Show in Birmingam. I did the trial, and then bought the Professional Edition. (actually, I think I effectively had a double trial: I started a trial, then it expired, then I asked nicely, and they extended the trial!) One thing I particularly like about the State Machine support is that you can switch the view between "diagram" and various "table" forms (state/event, state/next/state, etc) - so you can use whichever is most convenient to the particular task at hand... How does one decide? This company packages what looks like eleven SKUs of this product. Yes, I do seem to remember puzzling over that for a while! One of the advertised features of this package is "Code Engineering" that purports to support code generation in thirteen or more languages. Are you planning to use that feature in the future? I haven't used it yet, but I do intend to at least try it. I think I saw this as a "nice-to-have" feature, and the increment over just the "must haves" wasn't too great. I have had a very brief look at it but, as you said earlier, it does seem to constrain you to build your model their way. There are also supposed to be "reverse engineering" facilities... |
