The LCD has memory too! Are you using all of it?

You could store foreground messages @ location 0 until the end of line memory and store interrupt msgs. (as they come in) in the remaining memory and just move the cursor to display the Interrupt (as long as appropriatte) and then move cursor back to the base foreground message location for foreground display.
