Have you considered leap seconds?
Since the globalization of transactions and time standards, in devices including embedded ones the actions to add a leap second every now and then must be in thought. Until now 24 leap seconds have been added so far, and the clocks at a specific time run from 0 to 59s to 60s and then they rollback normally.
